WhatsApp now has desktop video calling — but there’s a catch

WhatsApp has added fully encrypted video and voice calling to its desktop app, but it will only work in individual chats for now.

The Facebook-owned chat app has long supported video and voice calls on its mobile apps for iOS and Android, but these features haven’t been available on a desktop or laptop. That’s left it lagging behind the likes of Zoom and Google Meet — a particular problem during the coronavirus pandemic, when far more people have been staying in touch virtually.
